Penske Boys Send Ragan Spinning Again, and Again.

Just as good things start to come David Ragan and the No. 6 UPS team’s way, bad luck isn’t far behind. On Sunday it was delivered by the blue deuce and his team mate in the 77.

David rolled off quick, with a top-ten practice car. The tweaking prior to qualifying backfired however, and he started Sunday’s race in 37th position.

It only took him 54 laps before he was racing up inside of the top 10. He was holding steady in sixth position through lap 132 until his Ford got just a little loose coming out of turn two. As that happened, the Kurt Busch was right behind him and took the air off of David’s Fusion. David made a great save and was able to avoid contact with anyone else, but in doing so, flat-spotted his tires.

“Well, we had a little bit of a racing incident coming off of turn two,” said David after the race. “I think I was already a little loose and then I checked up just a bit and the No. 2 was right there. We got our tires messed up a bit, but the car still had some good speed. When we got back out on the track in the back, it was just real tough to pass cars."

David was just being nice. The 2 car cracked him, and he saved it.

Later, Busch's teamate Sam Horrnish Jr, checked up on the No.6 and sent it for another spin, effectively ending any hopes for a top finish. David had to make multiple trips down pit road to fix flat tires, check tire rub, and to monitor some other issues that plagued the No. 6 Ford Fusion.

“We were extremely loose on that last run,” said David. “I’m proud of our UPS team. We showed some promise today and we were solid early in the race. We’ve just got to look at this run today and try to get better.”

David and the UPS team will make their second trip to Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend for the 24th race of the 2009 season.

While he has a shot for a good finish at Bristol, I can't get past this oppourtunity that just passed by.
